NORWEGIAN SUMMER CAMP 2014
2014-07-09

The Norwegian Summer camp is over. The camp was from June 25 to June 29.

The camp was held at Moi close to Stavanger on the South West part of Norway.

208 participants attended the camp. That means that we were fully booked and could not allow the last comers to attend.

Shihan Antonio Pinero was our guest instructor. And as usual Shihan Antonio was a library of good ideas and excellent instructor. He is very well liked by everyone at the camp.

Totally we were 14 instructors and we taught much kumite and kata. In addition classes of knife combat and Dim Mak ( Death Point striking, self-defense  and bunkai.

A little training in the lake was appreciated. The water is seldom warm in this lake!

The weather was warm and nice, the best for years.

The participants were full of smile and Great Spirit and promised to return next year.

We got 9 new Dan grades.

I doubt that we can make a better camp next year!!Shihan Lars Hogquist was the leader of the camp.

MASUTATSU OYAMA – 20TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY
2014-05-01

The great Masutatsu Oyama passed away twenty years ago on 26th April 1994.

The world came to know him as an outstanding karate fighter and organizer, but also as a thinker and philosopher.

Thanks to his exceptional intellectual aura he was able to gather around him many excellent personalities of world politics, royal families and business. They came together as the International Karate Kyokushin Organisation (IKO) in the years 1960-1980.

Implementing his own philosophical principals in life, he earned the title of “The Last Samurai”.

In the years 1970-1990 IKO was the largest karate organization in the world with branches in 120 countries. Sosai Mas. Oyama’s last great international journey was made to Poland in November 1993. He did not conceal his satisfaction from participating in the “Oyama Cup” International Karate Tournament in the Katowice “Spodek” Arena where an audience of almost 10 thousand spectators welcomed him with a standing ovation.

Sosai Mas. Oyama changed the lives of millions of people all over the world.

His original philosophy of Kyokushin, i.e. the pursuit for the Ultimate Truth, captured the hearts of young people especially. They considered the search for perfection in their own lives to be the ultimate truth. Mas. Oyama’s ideals were reflected in the every-day lives of these people, in their striving for perfection in every aspect of training, study and work as well as their devotion for their parents and their country. Thanks to his philosophy their lives became more vibrant – their courage necessary for fulfilling the most ambitious dreams increased. The requirement for systematic work, perfection in action, self-control, ethic and moral purity but above all humility improved the psyche and life of millions of Kyokushin adepts. This was particularly emphasised by those who were starting their lives “from scratch” as emigrants in countries where at the beginning they had nothing but their strong will which came from practicing Kyokushin.

A group of Sosai Mas. Oyama’s personal students are still with us. They pass on their experiences and the Kyokushin philosophy to the next generations.

As one of these students, we would like to ask you to dedicate the next training to the memory of Master Masutatsu Oyama.

Osu.

COSTA RICA SEMINAR WITH SHIHAN ANTONIO PINERO 2013
2014-02-10

From December 12 to the 17th, Costa Rica KWF had a special visit from Shihan Antonio Piñero, who is currently the KWF Chairman and the President of the European Kyokushin Federation. This was a special invitation made from the Costa Rica KWF Representative Sensei Mauricio Alvarado.

On December 14th the KWF hosted an international Seminar in charge of Shihan Piñero. In this occasion we received the visit of several Karate Organizations such as Shidokan, Kyokushin Kan, IKO Matsushima, Ashihara and Shieijyuku Karate. In Costa Rica a movement of cooperation between different styles is being promoted by Sensei Alvarado in order to elevate the competition and learning level of all the students regarding their beliefs or affiliations.

The Seminar was very interesting to all the practitioners since Shihan Piñero is known for his excellent teaching capacity and technical skills. During the training, basic areas of Kihon, Idogeiko, Fighting Techniques and Self Defense were covered.

The next day a Kyu and Dan examination was held, where students tested for green, brown and black belts. In this opportunity, the KWF Representative for Costa Rica was awarded his 4th Dan.
Not only did Shihan Piñero teach karate, but he had the opportunity to go sightseeing in our beautiful country, getting to know our wildlife, vegetation, volcanoes, and historical monuments.

Indeed this was a great event for the Kyokushin Karate in Costa Rica, which will surely increase its technical capacities in training thanks to the knowledge and expertise from Shihan Piñero. We surely hope in the near future we can have him again in Costa Rica.
